I know this one!

It's a river, right?

On to the actual review, I thought this was very nice! Catchy, clean synths... percussion sounded great. I really like the effects you used, and the synths all complimented each other well. Something I might have done, not sure if it would fit, is reverse the sounds in a bar of the drums and have that lead up into the next part.

Um, not much else to say. I really like this song, quite upbeat and cheerful.

Yep, correct answer! :D Like I promised, I upoaded a sample of a new song.

Thanks for the tip and positive response!
The idea with the drums, I think I'm gonna try that out soon, seems like a good idea. It may also make the song somewhat more versatile.

Here's my two cents

Very nice start! I can definitely hear the electronic influences here...

Mostly in the strings. They start off too loud, which might be good for catching the attention but if they don't go anyway else volume-wise, it might starts sounding like a synth more than strings. I'd suggest starting them a piano and then raising to a forte. You can adjust velocity in Reason, can't you?

The piano sounds very nice, though, maybe if the strings backed off a little bit you could pick it up better. The bass part is difficult to hear for me.

But composition-wise, excellent job. It reminds me a lot of Egypt, and the floods that happened every year. I don't know what your goal was, but the song gave a sort of destructive, drowning feeling. Then there was a line I heard around 2:37 that sounded like it came straight from a desert folk song.

Keep on the great work!

Jibronyx responds:

Thanks for the comment, really love it when people actually get a feeling out of a song.
Indeed it starts of too loud, guess it's a left over from my synthmusic state of mind ;)
And yes, in Reason velocity can be adjusted, I'll try that out.
The drwoning feeling was what I tried to implement in the song, so that worked out well I guess :)

Could use some work.

I'm feeling bored and helpful, so here's my review. Please don't take anything offensively!

First off, I think you could reduce the delay on that synth. I'm not sure if that's what's making a note in that phrase clash, but it sounds slightly annoying. Secondly, piano. The part panned to the far left is fine, but FL Keys is overused. For video game remixes, it sounds fine, but it's just that everyone who owns FL Studio uses it.

The part panned to the right... ack. Reduce the levels. I'm hearing a lot of clipping. And it could use a little centering. But the volume might just be the problem.

I'd suggest bringing out the strings and adding a soft bass. This song is mostly dominated by mid to high-range sounds, and a balance is always nice.

Um... nice job, but I think it might sound better if you took some of these suggestions. Again, I'm not trying to be mean, just helpful.

knuxrouge responds:

I take no offense to constructive advice.
I thought I mixed it just fine, my hearing isn't as keen as my other senses, so I'll look into your advice, thanks.

Teehee!

Sorry for taking so long to review this!

I don't know, something about this song makes me want to run outside and watch the snow... despite the fact that it's almost midnight. Excellent composition, I like each part for what it is and all of them flow well. Piano sounds great, especially with tempo changes. Strings sound somewhat screechy, but I'm not going to blame you for that.

Overall, a very well-written piece, really captures the season! Keep up the good work!

LacrimosaMuse responds:

thanks again. Ive been waiting to see some new reviews and yet again you seem to understand the mood im trying to capture. The strings do sound worse in this program than anywhere else, and they're eighth note part falls pretty flat from what I wanted, but you have to do the best with what you ahve right? Im saving up for MOTU, so no more of this EQd crap :)

Awrsome...

This is fantastic! I really like all the different synths you used, especially on the base end. The one that comes in after the first minute that sort of sounds Egyptian in a way... are these tombs meant to be pyramids?

Drum patterns are very nice, not really sure how much variation went in here because I've been paying so much attention to the melodic parts. They sound really nice, especially when you reach the effects around 4:30. That part is awesome.

This song as a whole gives me images of grave robbers sneaking through dark tunnels and dodging traps in search of priceless artifacts buried with dead pharaohs... really interesting imagery.

Altogether it's definitely one of your best! Normally things this long can make me lose interest, but I listened to the whole thing without getting slightly tired of it! Nice variety and synthwork! Keep on making good music!

-Lamp

ReFreezed responds:

Thanks for the awesome review! And yes, I meant tombs in Egyptian pyramids.

This time I really tried to give each part of the song it's own time in the spotlight, which I guess is why it got so long. Making songs vary much is important, so I'm glad that you didn't felt it was repetitive. :)

Interesting

The harp has some interesting intervals here, but after getting used to that it sounded very nice and mysterious. The strings sounded nice, but I think the transitions between notes could have been smoother, as with the voice. The low strings need to be louder... enough of that. I like the composition, for some reason it reminds me of a TV series about a girl who hears strange noises at night. But it suits very well for a flashback... something I might have done was to add a slight crackling effect to make it sound like an older recording, but since this is classical I'm not sure how that would work.

Nice job here, keep up the good work!

camman007 responds:

Thanks for the comments the transition problems are due to still trying to figure out these fairly new samples, but i agree with you. Hmm interesting connection to the tv show. Maybe i could score something similiar lol :p but thanks again

Much better than mine.

I really like this one! In the beginning the left hand suddenly takes over, which sounds okay but the transition could have been a lot smoother. I really like the right hand part, though, gives a sort of upbeat feeling in a minor setting... I'm sort of picturing a dance outside in the end of autumn. People are celebrating, but are said to see the colors of fall disappear.

Very nice job on the song here! I like it a lot better than mine. :)

-Lamp

Phyrnna responds:

The left hand part and the right hand part are actually somewhat overlapping throughout the song. Which was my intention to create a somewhat overlinking feel between the two.
And yes, it has a somewhat upbeat mood, but with the minor chordal setting, it does still hold a taint of sadness.
Thank you very much for the review!

Splendiferous-like

Very nice job here, sir. The voice was a nice addition, even though I would have liked another syllable. Aah and ooh got a little repetitive after a while. Nice variation with the patterns, though. I liked your use of sidechaining, and the bass here sounded wonderful. The stringy pads you used were also nice. Not much else to say, just keep on pumping these out and I'll keep listening!

Excellent Performance

I really like this song, and your performance is amazing. Something I really like about pianos is that one person can cover such an expanse of sound with one instrument, and I feel that you used this very well. It started off great, and as the song evolved I felt like I just wanted to sit back and let the song wash over me. That would be nice.

I can't tell you how much I envy you. I've been practicing the piano for a year now and I'm still nowhere near the skill you have. One day I hope to play this, but until then I can only listen to your performance.

Umm... very nice job with the strings, by the way. I felt those fit in quite well, and they didn't do anything to overtake the piano.

Very nice job, keep up the good work!

mjattie responds:

thanks man :) don't worry, just practice =D
